All of a sudden Berlin was covered in snow. Nothing Monday. 5cm Tuesday morning. Gone by the evening. Bizarre.
Nice shots! :) :)
But nice that it was gone by evening!
Winter’s weird like that.
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! :)
The city still looks nice :)
Suggested title for the last photo: Der Schnee weisst nur Bahnhof.
That happened a few times in Sardinia this year. Wishing the sun would return.
Jonny, I love your photos. I’m gutted that I only discovered your blog after you’ve left Berlin. Good luck with whatever is next!
Wow, I’ll be in Berlin in the coming weeks. A part of me wants to experience the snow for myself, and the other is ready for Spring. Great shots :)
Berlin is so beautiful in the snow…
Last time I was there, there was snow covering everything for weeks. Its hard for me to imagine the city any other way now…
That is Berlin to you; A Cabaret! Song and dance! Snow, and no snow! Everchanhing and yet the same. I love Berlin.
Breathtakingly beautiful Images, well done! What Lens were these captured with?
Canon 50mm f/1.8 not the most uncommon, I just stuck something fast on before I ran out the door so I could ‘freeze’ the snowflakes. I’ve done this with a slower shutter speed before and the snow just disappears. Then I feel silly.
Haha, ok I have that lens too, very crisp shots! Followed you look forward to seeing more of your work!
Cold & cool…. Pure white also nice pictures there..!!
Great pics! That’s amazing how it came and went so fast!
I always love “Snow + GreyScale combination” !! Reminds me of ancient times …the times when I wasn’t born :P Cheers

Cold….I can feel the cold depicted in these photos. Thanks for sharing. Connie
It gave you just enough time to get some great pics in. If only all weather was as accomodating!!
Great photos – I particularly like the top one!
I wish I lived in a more interesting place like Berlin so I could more easily start a photo blog which is what I’d prefer.
(text text text…. yawn yawn yawn. Don’t like stealing and toying around with images much. :-) )
Where are you, Dan?
Linköping, Sweden, can be just like that. It might even snow in May, which is totally insane. I’ve taken a few pictures of the last time it snowed heavily here:

I love the way the trees look when they have that white layer on the branches. I love snow.
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I love the trees! The top pic is of my street, so I’m getting it printed to send to my old flatmates (all my photos left with me!)
Your photos are great! Mine are just simple pics i can show to my friends & folks back home.
After the madness of last year, we had nothing but cold winds this year. Harldy a snowflake to be seen the whole winter through.
Just like here in norway. Nothing on monday, everywhere today.
i hate snow
Exquisitely captured in that powerful black and white. The stark contrast of that chilly blanket…wonderful
Snow sucks in America too.
I love the mood of these photos, they transport me. Nice job!
Love the pics! The consistent colors in all 3 are nice.
Love your photos. I especially love the first one.
We had snow this morning too.
Amazing photos. I visited Berlin, but in the summer time (for me it is better). Greetings from north-east of Italy.
I love Berlin! Thanks so much for posting and congratulations on being Freshly Pressed! You certainly captured Berlin’s ‘snow moment’ with style and sophistication. I’m also following you from here so I can enjoy your other photography!

thanks for the report
awesome black and white photos.. first photo is my favorite.
Beautiful photos. I love how the snow just makes things look peaceful.
This makes me so jealous! I actually just uploaded a post about how we in Michigan have just lost ALL of our snow! I ski, so thats not a good thing. These are great street photos. Awesome!
Looks very pretty. Living in New EnglandNew England, I feel your shock of snow, so late in the calendar year. Brrr… cold.
Winter does not want to go away…
awesome pics dear……..
The snow looks great! Very pretty!
I like the shot of the sign in the snow. It’s composed of some nice planes
So weird seeing Berlin covered in snow! Beautiful shots :)
Donaustrasse, great picture. Don’t know if we have a street named after a river near Berlin here in Vienna. I was in Tainan on Feb. 21 & 22. Very warm. Ran around barefoot on a public track next to the Confucius Temple. Stopped at a monument with a missile. They are not sure where and when it came from. It didn’t explode, and it won’t. But they are keeping it, like the temples and alleys. Went into the Patriotic Women’s Association. Nice place, from Japanese times. Sat around with a friend, wrote a poem into her notebook. Had been swimming in the mountains the week before, with another friend. Nice and warm there, too. It was cold on some days in Taipei, and in the wind on the island of Kinmen. But nothing like in Europe. Some of the people I went around with in Taiwan came from Berlin. Literarisches Kolloquium. Simon Urban was there, author of Plan D. Great novel, hilarious. Was just presented at Taipei Book Fair and will be translated into English, maybe also into other languages. It’s about a GDR detective, in late 2011. Yes, Communist East Germany still exists in this book. Now I am back in Vienna. The sun is out, but it’s cold. Was grateful for gloves yesterday on my bicycle in the afternoon.

Beautiful photos – it’s always so magical in the snow
The weather patterns across the globe sure are changing.
It’s like a early spring day here in Ontario today.
That happens here in Virginia Beach sometimes. it is bizarre…but reminds us we are really not in control the way we think we are…..Beautiful photography!
Your photos are just so perfect! They capture the beautiful magic of the snow in a way that made me feel as if I was really there!

Great pictures! I love the way you used black and white in these :)
Like the street scene. Snow scenes in B&W are always great.
Isn’t snow an amazing thing?

Very cool photos! Winter has been strange this year.
Very nice photo and yes terribly cold…
Great snaps! Brrr! Looks cold!
Thanks for the short trip to my home town. I love Berlin whatever the weather but I sure prefer spring and summer. That’s why I will only be back visiting my folks in April.
Glad I found you through freshly pressed. Congrats!

loos cold.. was it cold enough ?? but so beautiful !!
Hardly cold at all, relatively speaking. That’s why the snow disappeared!
Thanks for the lovely pictures. When I was growing up in Virigina, this was the kind of snow that we had all the time. Just enough to make things interesting without being too much of a pain. My 8 year old nephew and 6 year old niece live there now and they’ve only seen major snow a couple of times in their lives. Now that I live in Massachusetts, I’m much more used to the snow, but this winter has been a mild one. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed.
Thanks very much! Freshly pressed is mad, eh? I’m used to 30 or 40 views being a good day, 2 days ago was my record something like 2,500 views and hundreds of emails! I thought my phone had broken. I was really lucky I had my camera on me that day, I think out of the whole Winter in Berlin we only got those 3 hours where it looked like this. I decided to get the bus to work rather than the U-Bahn (subway) for some reason, so I was delayed by over about 30 minutes or so, and thought ‘now or never’. It’s so many times I’ve had my camera on me and thought ‘oh the light’s not right’ or ‘I’ll capture that next time’. For once photos came before work. Thanks for your lovely words!
You’re quite welcome! I think some of the best photography out there are the photos that are totally off-the-cuff without worrying about the editing. Snow is really very lovely when it first falls. There’s a mountain just up the street from us that is exquisite when it snows and it’s a shame how quickly the beauty fades when the snow starts to melt.
great! love these 3 pictures
I love how any city looks more beautiful covered in snow :)
coming from Norway, it makes me feel like home!
I write a travel themed blog about London :)
Congratulations on being freshly pressed!
Huh. Strange. We get snow like that sometimes too, here in Canada.
I especially love the shot with so many parked cars, and a set of tracks just barely visible between them all.
