It just means furniture (möbel). Perhaps I romanticise too much, but I find all these ‘extra’ letters and accents that we don’t have in English fairly fascinating. I can’t really say why, it was the same when I lived in Denmark and I got excited every time I saw a giant ø, æ or å. It’s likely I’ll be leaving Berlin fairly soon, and I’ll miss these guys.
Germans love them too, if only because apparently the majority of English-Speakers can’t pronounce ä, ö or ü properly at all (be honest, we tend to just ignore the umlauts).
Happy New Year.
