Social Spaces Exhibition – June 24 – August 24
My first exhibition will be starting on June 24th, in Berlin-Friedrichshain. I have 4 rooms and 3 themes, all under the common theme of ‘Social Spaces’.
The first theme is daily life in 6 districts of Berlin, exploring the similarities and contrasts between these places. There will be photos from Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Mitte, Neukölln and Wedding.
The second is the developments of architectural styles used by the GDR (East Germany) in the 1950s and 60s, through these photographs I hope to explore what we can learn from the rapidly changing architecture right on what was the frontline of Cold War politics, and what this can teach us today, as it still stands in various states of repair.
The third theme is of course abandoned buildings. They are an ever-present reminder of Berlin’s tumultuous history, they are a source of historical education, pain and through their exploration they are the source of much joy as well. Hopefully these photographs will encourage others to learn and explore as well.
Of course I hope that the over-arching theme will simply be great images.
If you would like to come along and check out the exhibition you are more than welcome. It will be running from 24 June until the 24th of August. Prints will also soon be available from my (as-yet unfinished) new website.
The exhibition will be on at Speakeasy Sprachzeug language school, 116 Boxhagener Str. Berlin (Nearest U-Bahn is Frankfurter Tor.).
